'Hot Mirror presents a survey of Sassen’s work at the Hepworth Wakefield, side by side with the exhibition 'Lee Miller and Surrealism in Britain'.

Sassen cites Surrealism as one of her earliest artistic influences, referenced in the uncanny shadows, fragmented bodies and dream-like landscapes in her work.

For Hot Mirror Sassen selected individual images from her notable art photography series of the last ten years, as well as new photographs and collages. These selections will be combined to create ‘image-poems’ that draw on the Surrealist strategies of collage. Hot Mirror will also present a new version of Sassen’s immersive film, Totem, 2014, which places the visitor inside a surreal landscape.'

A creative collaboration between Viviane Sassen and designer Irma Boom will accompany the exhibition in the form of a book – Hot Mirror – published by Prestel.
